Sun 12 Feb Nairobi to Safari

We were up early for our 4am taxi to the airport. The plan was to fly to Nairobi where we were to be picked up by our Safari driver, stop for coffee then head out for our first leg of the safari at Lake Nakuru.
The flight was short, we slept. At the airport we were met by a man with a sign whose name was Titus, he would be our safari driver and guide for the next 4 days.
We started out of the airport onto a large 4 lane road where it appeared a very large cow had been struck by a very large range rover. There were people running across the road with huge chunks of the cow into the bushes. Whoa!
Titus said his coffee shop was closed due to it being Sunday so he took us to a hotel for breakfast. It was buffet style and cost a fortune! Oh well. We then set off. We were the only people Titus had on the tour so we got the whole Nissan van to ourselves. Titus seemed nice though a little quiet.
We drove through Nairobi and out through the sprawling slums, over a range of low mountains and down into the Rift Valley. It was a beautiful sight. It looks like low desert as far as the eye could see. We drove for about four hours through small villages, rural farms and larger villages. We travelled down a long dirt road to the Lake Nakuru park entrance and pulled up to Lake Nakuru Lodge. It was a large hotel with cabin like rooms. We got settled into ours, were warned about shutting our doors due to baboons and took a long hot shower. We sat on our balcony and watched zebras, Cape Buffalo, baboons and antelopes wander by.
We had some lunch at the big buffet style restaurant(all of our meals were included in the cost of our safari) and relaxed until we had to meet Titus at 4 for a game viewing drive.
It was fantastic! We saw lions, zebras, buffalo, jackals, baboons, black and white rhinos, giraffes, gazelles, impalas, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons, and a ton of birds! We only had to drive about 100 yds into the park and animals were everywhere!
We drove back, enjoyed the kinda gross buffet dinner and got ready for our next day of heading out to the Masai Mara.
