Artsy Fartsy

A family staying nearby told us about a fancy hotel in the area where you can pay to use the pool for the day. We decided the plan was going to be to swim in the morning and check out the art in the afternoon. We took off to the hotel in a tuktuk and as we walked through the entrance there was a giant swan shaped double decker boat parked at the waters edge that met with the hotel grounds. It sounds magnificent but it was poorly done and I failed to take a picture. The staff told us a corporation rented out the entire hotel for the day and the silly swan boat(even he thought it was terrible) and to come back tomorrow. We wandered, as we do, through a Muslim neighborhood that two separate people tried to deter us from, saying it was the Muslim neighborhood(we still went and it was just like anywhere else except for the butchers). We decided to head to the big art show. It seemed hotter then usual today and Lee was not enjoying the art so we didn't get through all the exhibit in the main venue. I will say it was a very impressive collection of modern art that was well curated. I wish we could have seen more, maybe we will go back. After a light lunch we took refuge in our room. We decided to try and catch some of the smaller art shows in the other gallery spaces(I say gallery but they took vacant buildings and turned them into galleries for the show) sprinkled around Fort Cochin. We wandered and saw the print/graphic art collection and some strange instillations. On our walk back we stopped by the beach because we noticed a million tuktuks, motorcycles and cars all parked and were wondering what was going on. Turns out everybody in the area heads to the beach on Sunday afternoons. It was spectacular! So many people, camels, kites! As we were leaving a steady stream of cars and tuktuks full of families were arriving. Beautiful! We got back for tea & cake, then dinner. Another lovely day.
